The Twisted Metal games were some of the most popular titles back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Thematically, the story of each game revolves around a man named Calypso who is the organizer of the titular vehicular combat tournaments and the one who rewards the winner with anything that they desire.

Unsurprisingly, the plot was never the series' strong suit. However, the core gameplay was fun and popular enough to spawn several mainline installments and a handful of spin-offs.

Unfortunately, the franchise's popularity would die out in the late 2000s. Sony attempted to reboot the series in 2012, but it wasn't enough. Fast forward to 2021 and it appears that Sony wants to try again.

Destruction Allstars Studio Are Reportedly Working On A New Twisted Metal Game

Lucid Games don't exactly have the strongest track record. However, for some reason, Sony is trusting Lucid with the keys to the Twisted Metal franchise.
