Every time a new version of a superhero is bound for the big screens, it’s two major factors that decide how well the translation goes – the casting, and the costume. Rachel Brosnahan recently shared her enthusiasm and praise after getting a firsthand look at David Corenswet‘s costume during a table read in Atlanta for Superman: Legacy.

Having been announced over a year ago, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn’s DC Universe has been generating buzz as it approaches prime time. While the Creature Commandos are set to initiate the franchise on Max (formerly HBO Max) later this year, Superman: Legacy marks the official commencement of the live action DC Universe, featuring the last son of Krypton in his solo film.

Naturally, talent attached to the production won’t be deriding it while hitting the press, but insight is valuable to fans nonetheless. At the recent SAG Awards event, Brosnahan was interviewed on the red carpet to discuss her forthcoming role as Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy.

Brosnahan expressed her ongoing preparation for the character, sharing, “I’m talking to some journalists, I’m reading a lot of comics—so many I hadn’t read before. It’s been really fun to dig into this universe.”

The Kingdom Come Superman costume was designed by legendary comic book artist Alex Ross. It first appeared in the classic Kingdom Come #1 (1996). But does it fit with the more lighthearted Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy?

In addition, the critically acclaimed star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel revealed that she had participated in the first table read with the Superman: Legacy cast in Atlanta, where she had the opportunity to see Corenswet’s Superman costume. Brosnahan’s excitement was palpable as she exclaimed, “I got to see the suit, and I was blown away, so I hope that the fans are as well!”

Since Corenswet’s casting as the Man of Steel, fans have been eagerly anticipating glimpses of the Superman: Legacy costume. Gunn has consistently kept details under wraps, emphasizing that the suit won’t be revealed until principal photography begins. Even the recent photo the DC Co-CEO shared on his Instagram has the cast in their everyday clothes, with nary a costume in sight.

While there are unconfirmed sketches of what are rumored to be concept art popping up on social media, with the cast assembling in Atlanta for the upcoming week of filming, it seems only a matter of time for the actual suit to be leaked. So speculation is rife about when Gunn will unveil the iconic Superman costume.

Gunn, in his social media updates, has conveyed his vision for the Superman: Legacy costume, aiming to encapsulate the past, present, and future of the iconic character. The filmmaker has also remained elusive about whether Corenswet’s Superman will sport the classic red trunks — an ongoing debate among DC fans who feel they are too ‘old-fashioned’ and ‘silly’ for modern audiences.

Recent developments suggest that the specific design of the emblem on Corenswet’s Superman costume, the iconic S-shield (or hope shield?), may have already been confirmed. The Kingdom Come logo was spotted on cast members’ nameplates during the table read, sparking speculation about its role in Superman: Legacy.

Whether this symbol will represent the House of El in the film remains uncertain, but fans are eager for Gunn to pull back the curtain and reveal the highly anticipated costume. However, it should be noted that the classic Kingdom Come Superman costume has been used in live action before. Brandon Routh sported a comic accurate costume when he returned to the Superman role for the Arrowverse version of the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline.

The wide-eyed endorsement from Brosnahan leaves fans with one burning question: What will David Corenswet’s Superman costume truly look like? Do you think the Kingdom Come costume is a good fit for a return to a more classic adaptation of the Big Blue Boy Scout of the DC Universe?
