Disney’s addition of a more mature, adults-only rating to its streaming platform meant good news for the arrival of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, subsequent rumors suggest that the show is aiming for an R rating, which isn’t the same as the TV-MA rating the series got on Netflix and would put it right in line with Moon Knight.
Now, we just get more confirmation that Daredevil: Born Again isn’t trying for a TV-MA rating.
According to @CineStealth, the Daredevil reboot will be “softer than what we got on Netflix” but it will also be “edgier” if you compare it to other Disney+ shows.
In art and fashion, “edgy” is used to describe something that’s rough and aggressive with a hint of violence and sex. It’s a sign that the Daredevil show will likely get a TV-14 rating when it comes out on Disney+, which isn’t indicative of quality. But, keep in mind, one of the biggest reasons why Daredevil was such a big hit on Netflix was it wasn’t afraid to get down and gritty.
Daredevil was a violent show that drew you in with its gore but made you stay because of its direction, writing, and action set pieces. It was a true showcase of what a blind human with superhuman senses could and was willing to do to achieve justice.
A less violent Daredevil: Born Again could be just as good if not better than the original but it could also be worse. We can’t know for sure until it premieres.
The good news is we’re inching closer to the release date of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. The filming has already started and with eighteen episodes confirmed for its first season, anyone who missed Charlie Cox’s blind “very good” lawyer laying waste to the denizens of Hell’s Kitchen will have their fill in Spring 2024.
