Electronic Arts is opening itself to cross-platform versus play in FIFA soon.

According to the official FIFA Direct Communications account on Twitter, EA will be "testing cross-play functionality in Online Seasons and Online Friendlies on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia Versions of EA Sports FIFA 22."

FIFA is one of the biggest sports simulation games in the world, but the cross-play support leaves a lot to be desired. The upcoming gameplay test will be good news for millions of FIFA fans around the globe.

In case you didn't read through the FAQ pages, the upcoming cross-play feature for FIFA 22 is completely optional. Players can opt in and out using the "Matchmaking option" menu. Afterward, all that players have to do is to press the specified button to access and invite players on other platforms to a game of FIFA 22. You will know if you're playing FIFA 22 against someone from another platform if you see a cross-play indicator beside their gamer tag. You'll also see the same indicator during matches when you play the Online Seasons mode.
