Obviously, Counter-Strike 2 will be an upgrade over Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. But, the more we’re hearing about all that’s coming to Counter-Strike 2, the more we become eager to see it be rolled out for the general public.
The latest addition for Counter-Strike 2 is particularly enticing as it promises to reduce lag.
According to the official announcement, Counter-Strike 2 will take advantage of Nvidia Reflex. The GPU manufacturer says using Reflex can reduce in-game latency by as much as 35%. The best part is Nvidia designed this technology with an older graphics card in mind, so you wouldn’t need to upgrade to make use of it.
The only caveat is that it’s only available to Nvidia GPU owners with no AMD equivalent as of yet.
Nvidia provided a slide showing a latency drop with a GTX 1060 from 26ms to 17ms at 1440p and Max settings. 9ms isn’t a small drop, especially in games where a literal split second could be the deciding factor between winning and losing. Also, true to its description, Nvidia Reflex isn’t as felt in more expensive cards, with the RTX 4070 improving only by 2ms going from 10ms to 8ms.
Again, it’s only exclusive to Nvidia GPU owners, but given how much cheaper graphics cards are these days, it wouldn’t be that surprising if this feature forces Counter-Strike players to make the switch later this year.
Ultimately, Reflex is a fascinating piece of software that, in a nutshell, reduces the gap between the time that you click your mouse or make your operator jump and when your character fires in-game.
We’re looking forward to more similar features coming to Counter-Strike 2 as we inch closer to its launch.
Speaking of Counter-Strike 2, Valve is warning the public from falling into scams about getting into the still-ongoing not-so-public beta.
