Conor McGregor thinks EA Sports UFC games are trash

According to one of the world's highest-paid athletes, EA Sports' earlier UFC games were the best.

Then again, EA Sports UFC 4 was the game when EA removed Conor McGregor from the "Top Fighters" list.

EA Sports UFC used to be good until they weren’t. It’s universally agreed upon that the past few outings from EA Sports’ long-running UFC-based gaming series haven’t been up to par with their usual standards. As it turns out, it’s not just the gamers who think so. Apparently, former UFC Featherweight and UFC Lightweight Champion, Conor McGregor, is a huge fan of the older games as well.

The Notorious, as he’s been called, didn’t think twice about letting Electronic Arts know his thoughts after playing EA Sports UFC 4. McGregor posted an old promotional video he did with the YouTuber, KSI, for EA Sports UFC 2, before taking a swipe at the series’ latest entry, referring to it as “garbaiste. The Irish word translates to “garbage”, which means to say that McGregor isn’t a huge fan of the 2020 title.

Of course, McGregor was one of the cover athletes for EA Sports UFC 2, so he might’ve just been showing his bias. Then again, the consensus says otherwise. Whereas the critic reviews all say that EA Sports UFC 2, 3, and 4, are objectively good games, the audience scores tell a different story. In fact, EA Sports UFC 4 is the worst-rated of the bunch with a user score of 1.8 on Metacritic from 546 ratings, signifying an “overwhelming dislike” from audiences.

TLDR; McGregor is just like the rest of us when it comes to our distaste for EA’s most recent EA Sports UFC outing.

It’s unclear if McGregor’s callout will affect Electronic Arts’ plans for EA Sports UFC 5. But, if someone from EA out there is listening, it might be worth taking a look at what worked for EA Sports UFC 2 and what was disliked in EA Sports UFC 3 and 4. McGregor isn’t the only one who thinks lowly of the latest entries.

EA Sports UFC 4 also prominently featured Khabib Nurmagomedov, the guy who beat him decisively in 2019.

Speaking of EA, the video game publisher dropped the Fight Night series as soon as EA Sports UFC gained popularity. However, given the resurgence of boxing as a sport in recent years, it might be a good idea to bring Fight Night back. In the meantime, boxing fans can look forward to playing Esports Boxing Club, which has since been renamed to Undisputed. The game is currently out as an Early Access title on Steam.
