Captain America 4, which will see Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson take on the mantle of the titular character and superhero, is reportedly getting a title change. Before this, the film, scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024, was named Captain America: New World Order.

The rumored title change comes from Hollywood insider CanWeGetToast on Twitter where he posted a picture of Mackie's character and the caption "Captain America: Untitled releases a year from today!"

Given that the film's working title for some time has been Captain America: New World Order, CanWeGetToast's tweet saw a fan of the franchise ask "Untitled? Is nwo being changed?" CanWeGetToast responded in the affirmative before going on to clarify that the ongoing strike by the Writer's Guild of America has nothing to do with the title change.

Captain America 4's current title and release date was revealed last year at Marvel's presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con.

While the sudden name change is surprising, this isn't the first time we've heard of it. In March, internet rumors emerged a name change is imminent because of its semblance to a conspiracy theory as well as the strengthening political association between China and Russia.
