Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been one of the best sellers of the Call of Duty series in the United States this year. While the game of the year, Elden Ring, retained the position for as long as we can remember, it was finally dethroned by the record-breaking Modern Warfare 2 sales.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been breaking records since its launch. The game made over $800 million in its first weekend of launch, breaking the previous record held in 2011 by one of its predecessors. The game also crossed $1 billion in sales over its first ten days of launch.
Modern Warfare 2 has been consistently in the top 10 list of best-seller games on Steam since its launch and once again has reached the top of the list by beating Elden Ring. And, the latter is not easy to beat, given its popularity and winning the Game of the Year award, beating some of the industry's leading games like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West.
Modern Warfare 2 may not have won anything during the Game Awards, but it managed to secure at least three different nominations, including the game of the year award, the best sound design award, and the best action game award.
