Activision Blizzard might already be on its way to becoming part of Xbox Game Studios, but its agreements with Sony remain in place. Apparently, part of the publisher's contract with its incoming owner's rivals includes a VR version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
RalphsValve claims that Infinity Ward is working on a standalone VR mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that will come out exclusively on the PSVR2. In addition, the leaker adds that Sony might reveal Modern Warfare 2's VR mode at its upcoming State of Play event on June 2.
With at least 20 games planned for the PSVR2, Sony is, at the very least, expected to make some big announcements later this week.
However, one reason to believe that a PSVR2 version of Modern Warfare 2 is coming is that another leaker has corroborated RalphsValve's claims. AccountNGT also says that PSVR2 exclusive mode is true and that Activision Blizzard might reveal it ahead of the State of Play presentation.
As we have already mentioned, Activision Blizzard must still honor its contractual obligations with Sony.
In recent Call of Duty entries, PlayStation users have enjoyed exclusive beta access as well as timed and exclusive content. Although a PSVR2 version of Modern Warfare 2 is definitely a big project, it's not without precedent. Previously, Infinity Ward released a standalone VR experience for the PSVR, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Jackal Assault VR Experience.
