Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - the recently released remake, not the original - has been considered by many as a disappointment given the issues with the single-player campaign and multiplayer. While the title is still selling well, Activision Blizzard is already planning a major shake-up of the franchise, much as a sequel could be a shake-up.

According to a new report by Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, Call of Duty 2025 will be making some "really big changes". Henderson says that the upcoming title will be a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and feature some futuristic tech. We may even see the return of the controversial jetpack movement system...

Hmm, well, none of these are "really big changes" since Call of Duty has already done all of this, but at least its different from the past couple of years. Ish? We certainly don't expect the least creative, popular AAA IP to reinvent the wheel, but at least we're seeing a course correction.

Call of Duty 2025 will also reportedly feature a mix of remastered Black Ops 2 maps and new maps. This is similar to how Modern Warfare 3 incorporated fan-favorite maps from the 2009 edition into the current game alongside originals based on the current battle royale map of Urzikstan. The Black Ops 2 remastered maps will be launched with the new maps.
