Call of Duty 2021 Rumors, News, Release Date, and More

Regardless of whether it's going to release in October or November or even in December, we'll likely hear more about it at E3 2021 later in June.

After visiting a

modern setting in 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the titular Cold War in 2020's Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, Activision Blizzard will reportedly bring gamers back to World War 2 in Call of Duty

Numerous reports from various credible resources state that Call of Duty 2021 will have a World War 2 setting. However, there are conflicting statements about whether it will follow an "alternative timeline" or a more traditional setting.

Despite confirming its existence and release window, Activision Blizzard has yet to reveal the name of Call of Duty 2021. In addition to this, they've also yet to confirm which development studio is working on the game.

Previously, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch all took yearly turns working on Call of Duty games. This meant that 2020 was supposed to be Sledgehammer Games' schedule. However, the developers of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: WWII were rumored to have been relegated to a supporting studio role, similar to Raven Studio. This resulted in Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War.

Activision Blizzard has yet to clarify if this is true or not. As such, we'll just have to wait and see what the title of Call of Duty 2021 is and who's in charge of development.

As of the moment, there's a trio of Call of Duty games that offers a bit of everything for everybody.

The Warzone ecosystem currently hosts three different Call of Duty titles that are distinctly different from each other. But, even though the selection is near-perfect, that doesn't mean that it couldn't get better, as our wishlist will prove to you.

While Treyarch's Black Ops Cold War is the more recent game, its graphics isn't necessarily better. In fact, many prefer the graphics of Modern Warfare and Warzone over Black Ops Cold War. There's a good reason for this, and it's because these games use different engines. Both Modern Warfare and Warzone use the same more modern engine, which results in better animations, lighting, sound, and bullet physics.

Hopefully, regardless of who is in charge of the development of Call of Duty 2021, they'll choose to use the same IW8 engine that currently powers Modern Warfare and Warzone.

We know. It makes little sense for

Activision Blizzard

to release Call of Duty 2021 as a next-gen exclusive. However, it does make a lot of sense to develop it with the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in mind. In particular, we're hoping that Call of Duty 2021 will support up to 120 fps gameplay at 4K (not just one or the other).

Basic doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, as Black Ops - Cold War has proven so far. Its multiplayer experience is drastically different from what Warzone and Modern Warfare have to offer, which is something that we're hoping to see in Call of Duty 2021.
