Blizzard fans will be pleased to learn that the unannounced survival game codenamed ‘Odyssey’ is nearly complete.
This report comes from Windows Central’s Jez Corden in a recent Xbox Two podcast episode. The insider claims “Odyssey” isn’t just a codename but the title of the game. However, he’s only 90% certain, so Blizzard might still change the title. Jez also mentioned that the game is almost finished and might be available on multiple platforms although he isn’t ruling out the possibility that it could be an Xbox-exclusive title.
Based on the footage he watched, Jez suggested that the upcoming game will likely run smoothly on the Xbox Series S. This is because Blizzard has reportedly opted for a “stylized fairy tale kind of art” style rather than a graphically intensive realistic approach.
Earlier, Jez had disclosed some information about ‘Odyssey’ saying that it looks similar to Everwild. In this upcoming game, players can sell their crafted items, like Fallout 76, as well as set up potion shops that they can sell to other players. On top of this, the gameplay and visuals of ‘Odyssey’ bear resemblances to Fable Legends and Ark.
With the substantial investment made by Microsoft to acquire Activision Blizzard last year, it makes sense to release it as an Xbox exclusive game. As Jez noted, the game is not burdened by the massive fan base of other Blizzard titles like Call of Duty and Diablo.
Although Jez has proven himself as a trustworthy gaming insider, it’s advisable to approach the news with a bit of caution as we haven’t had an official confirmation yet.
Activision Blizzard and Microsoft are, most likely, waiting for the $70 billion acquisition to clear before they make the formal announcement of this game. Otherwise, its exclusivity might be used as fodder by Sony as it tries to cancel the deal, much like what happened with Redfall.
