2015's Mad Max by Avalanche Studios is easily one of the most underrated games to be released last decade. The open-world action game wasn't a big hit among the masses at launch, so it doesn't come off as a surprise that the game didn't get a sequel. However, if the recent reports are to be believed, it appears that Avalanche Studios was actively working on a follow-up game before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
A ResetEra user named Simo spotted digital researcher Wendy W. Fok sharing a post of herself getting "scanned to be in Mad Max 2" at Avalanche Studios in New York. It's been a week since Fok retweeted the image, which she referred to as taken "before times", suggesting that the game was in the works before the pandemic. More importantly, the original image was uploaded more than five years ago, which could mean that the Mad Max sequel had somehow managed to fly under the radar for half a decade - an impossible feat in this day and age.
The most likely scenario here is that Avalanche Studios WAS working on a Mad Max sequel many years ago. It's just that this is the first time that we heard of it from someone who was part of the game because the NDA might have expired already. If this is true, then Mad Max 2 might have been canceled already, which makes sense since Avalanche Studio is already working on Contraband, a game that will be published by Xbox Game Studios.
