Assassin’s Creed Jade beta confirmed for August

While there is no specific release date for Assassin's Creed: Codename Jade, speculations hint at a launch later this year.

Ubisoft's approach with Assassin's Creed at the moment is to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks.

The herald of the Qin dynasty beckons you, fellow assassins, as Ubisoft recently announced the closed beta testing for its new mobile title, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade.

In partnership with Tencent’s Level Infinite, the mobile game takes us to third-century BC China, stirring the franchise’s lore with the beta set to run from August 3rd to August 11th on Android and iOS platforms. The game will be accessible to a select number of users in North America and Western Europe.

If you’re keen to weave your tale within the intriguing backdrop of the Qin dynasty, now’s your chance. You can sign up for the closed beta on the official website from July 27 to 31. Those lucky enough to be invited will have the opportunity to pre-download the beta from August 1st.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade could open the series to a relatively untapped mobile market.

When it comes to technical requirements, Android users will need Snapdragon 865 or above and Android 10 or higher. As for iOS users, they’ll need an iPhone 11 or above. A total of 5,000 slots have been allocated for this closed beta test.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade follows the journey of the adopted child of Master Wei Yu. From the formidable Great Wall to the imperial capital of Xianyang, players will traverse through a vivid world steeped in ancient history, replete with hidden perils. Your mission? To defend against the Xiongnu, unravel conspiracies, and tackle escalating responsibilities and novel challenges.

While Ubisoft is playing coy with the specifics of the closed beta content, they shared a glimpse into the game’s timeline. The narrative is etched in the third century BC, during the first unified Chinese dynasties – an era that’s marked by a vibrant interchange of trade and culture between East and West. As the character Xia, players will find themselves fighting against the Xiongnu, a nomadic tribe from the eastern Eurasian Steppe, while navigating threats beyond the Great Wall.

We’re still curious to see what the final name of Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is going to be.

Ubisoft formally unveiled Assassin’s Creed Jade at this year’s Ubisoft Forward Showcase, setting expectations for a free-to-play mobile game packed with classic Assassin’s Creed elements: stealth, melee combat, and ranged attacks. This release is part of a series of launches, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the VR game Assassin’s Creed Nexus, not to mention Assassin’s Creed Infinity – a planned unified entry point for future Assassin’s Creed games.

For some, anticipation may primarily be for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. However, Codename Jade, set in third-century BC China, also invites intrigue and promises an early sneak peek before Mirage hits the shelves on October 12. The closed beta offers a chance for the lucky few to explore Jade’s “huge open world”, a 2000-year journey through history, while providing Ubisoft and Level Infinite with crucial data for game development.

With Mirage dropping in October, Jade could make its debut by year’s end, although an early 2024 release wouldn’t be a surprise.

Regardless, the closed beta presents an exciting opportunity for players and developers alike, a chance to experience and refine the ambitious vision that is Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade.
