Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe may feature a female protagonist

A female protagonist would certainly be something that would leave a mark on the franchise and open a lot of possibilities moving forward. It would make sense for Ubisoft to introduce a female assassin given the reported theme of the upcoming title.

Ubisoft is shaking up the franchise, returning to its stealth action-adventure roots with Assassin's Creed Mirage. The upcoming title will also have a shorter game length compared to the previous trilogy of Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.

The developer is also reportedly introducing two main playable characters for Assassin's Creed Codename Red. According to the rumors, players can take control of a samurai and a shinobi for the upcoming title. It's unclear whether each one has a unique narrative or it will be a singular interchangeable character.

Rumors also suggest that Codename Red is coming in 2024. However, it seems unlikely that Ubisoft will be releasing a new title next year given that Assassin's Creed Mirage is coming in October. Unless, of course, it's back to its usual annual cycle, which it ditched with the release of Assassin's Creed: Origins in 2017.

These are just rumors at this point and Ubisoft has yet to officially reveal details for its next titles. The studio may be waiting to release Mirage first before giving fans more details about upcoming projects.

Thus, a lot is hinging on the success of Mirage, which recently got a trailer that shone the spotlight on its lead protagonist.
