Netflix's, Arcane, just became the first streaming show to win the highly coveted Emmy award for Outstanding Animated Program. The series beat other top animated shows like Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons', and What If…? to win the award. With Bob's Burgers winning in 2017, The Simpsons' in 2019, and Rick and Morty in 2020, Arcane's win is not an easy feat.
In addition to this, the show also won awards in three other categories. This makes a total of four wins out of the five categories it was nominated in.
Arcane is based on a much-revered video game franchise, League of Legends, developed and published by Riot Games. The show was released to the streaming service in November 2021 and is set in the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun. It chronicles two sisters, Jinx and Vi, who become separated in childhood. They follow different paths in life and finally reunite several years later. The series features a stellar cast, which includes Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Kevin Alejandro, Katie Leung, Toks Olagundoye, Jason Spisak, and Harry Lloyd.
