Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the clear favorite to be the next James Bond

Many actors, including Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Dan Stevens, have been proposed as likely candidates to take on the job.

Since Daniel Craig left the immortal role of James Bond vacant, we’ve heard the names of several actors that could potentially take up the tuxedo. However, none seem to have come as close as Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

According to Matthew Belloni of Puck, the 32-year-old actor has met with the producers of James Bond in a meeting that reportedly “went well.”

And, obviously, the granddaddy of casting coups: James Bond. The Aaron Taylor-Johnson rumors are true – he sat with producer Barbara Broccoli, and the meeting went well, per sources.

The only problem is that Taylor-Johnson’s upcoming roles might hurt his chances of seizing the coveted role.

While Taylor-Johnson fits the bill—great actor, British, fits the younger direction the Broccolis want to go, accomplished but not particularly famous – he’s about to be a much bigger star.

If Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff Kraven the Hunter or Universal’s Ryan Gosling two-hander The Fall Guy works, Taylor-Johnson might end up, ironically, too famous to take on Bond.

Since his breakthrough performance as John Lennon in the biopic Nowhere Boy, Taylor-Johson has risen through Hollywood, starring in blockbuster films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Godzilla, Tenet, Bullet Train, and Tom Ford’s thriller Nocturnal Animals, for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. However, many other actors such as Dan Stevens, Henry Cavill, and most notably Idris Elba, have been associated with the James Bond role, and Taylor-Johnson will be hoping that his upcoming projects won’t turn out to be his downfall in this aspiration.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven, a big-game hunter, in Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter, which will be released on October 6, 2023.

With no details released yet on the next James Bond entry, filming for Bond 26 likely won’t begin until 2024, which means that there’s a lot of time left before the producers settle on the next James Bond actor.
