We have seen a lot of spoilers for Deadpool 3, ranging from Wolverine’s costume to the appearance of the TVA from set photos shared on the internet. Many of the leaked images confirm longstanding rumors about the plot of the upcoming movie which ruins some of the anticipation – exciting for fans, but disappointing for those working on the film; not least the stars.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has taken to social media to address the massive leak of photos from filming. In a message on his Instagram stories, the actor explained that shooting movies outdoors exposes themselves to the risks of being photographed. However, despite the risks, the production team wants to use practical effects as opposed to CGI.
“Surprises are part of the magic of theatrical movies,” Reynolds writes. “It’s important for us to shoot the new DEADPOOL film in real, natural environments, using practical effects as opposed to making the movie indoors and digitally. Telephoto lenses continue to spoil surprises and create a difficult situation for everyone.”
The actor expressed hope that websites and social media sites would avoid sharing Deadpool 3 set photos. However, Reynolds does understand that people are sharing photos because of their excitement for Wade Wilson and Logan’s MCU debut.
“Here’s hoping some of the websites and social channels hold back showing images before they’re ready,” Reynolds adds. “The film is built for audience joy – and our highest hope is to preserve as much of that magic as possible for the finished film and the big screen.”
“Part of the reason people post spoilers is because they’re excited. I realize these aren’t real world issues and it’s firmly in the ‘good problems’ bucket. I love making this movie,” he ends, bringing the positive outlook the fan favorite actor is known for.
Based on the set photos leaked on social media, we know that Toad and Sabertooth from the X-Men series are making an appearance in Deadpool 3. Toad was also seen riding on what seemed to be the Fantastic Four’s Fantasticar, suggesting a connection to the upcoming movie. Another popular character, Dogpool, was seen together with Wade Wilson in an official photo.
We also saw photos of the TVA’s Minutemen, increasing the possibility that Owen Wilson’s Mobius may be part of the movie. There were previous rumors that the TVA would be after Deadpool as he messes with the Multiverse.
Jennifer Garner’s Elektra was announced as part of the movie but was later retracted. Garner has played coy about her return as Elektra since. Ben Affleck’s Daredevil may also be returning in Deadpool 3 due to his connection with Elektra.
It will be interesting to see if Marvel opts to move the filming indoors in light of the recent leaks. The production team may try to hide the most important characters and plot elements behind closed doors at this point. However, it seems that the leaks are increasing interest in the movie, which is a good thing since Deadpool 3 is the only movie coming in 2024.
