A lot of Marvel projects have been affected by the recent Hollywood strikes including Fantastic Four. However, with the writers already ending their work stoppage, we are slowly getting updates for upcoming movies.
In a recent interview with Collider’s Editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub, director Matt Shakman provided updates for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Shakman reveals that Marvel wants to start filming in London next Spring.
“It’s such an awesome world to be in. The script is awesome, the characters are brilliant. I’m super excited. I’m obviously very happy now that the writers’ strike has resolved in such a good way, and we’re able to reunite with Josh Friedman, our amazing screenwriter,” Shakman explained. “Yes, we are definitely gonna go in front of cameras next year. Probably the spring. [In] London. Pinewood.”

Shakman also teased that the upcoming film will be “unlike anything at Marvel you’ve seen before.” The director also shared his excitement about working on the movie. However, in typical Marvel fashion, Shakman stops short of sharing information about the Fantastic Four.
“There’s some stuff I’m super excited about,” Shakman shared. “It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.”
There have been many rumors about potential cast members for the upcoming movie. Shakman didn’t reveal names that are attached to the project yet given that the SAG-AFTRA strike prevents actors from finalizing contracts amid the ongoing work stoppage.

Matt Smith is one of the actors most recently linked to the role of Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic. Other names that are reportedly being eyed for the role include Dev Patel, Tom Ellis, and Adam Driver. There were reports Driver accepted the role of Reed Richards but insiders revealed that the actor is no longer going to be part of the project.
Gladiator 2’s Paul Mescal is being eyed for the role of Johnny Storm aka Human Torch while Margot Robbie is said to be a candidate for the role of Sue Storm. Vanessa Kirby is another name being floated around as Marvel’s Invisible Woman. There have also been funny rumors about Mila Kunis playing a female version of The Thing. The actor has since denied being part of the Fantastic Four.
We are eagerly awaiting Marvel’s casting announcement for Fantastic Four. It will be interesting to see which actors will end up playing as members of the superhero team that kicks off Phase 6 of the Multiverse Saga. We will keep you updated on new developments for the upcoming movie.
Fantastic Four is coming to theaters on May 2, 2025.
