Most people thought Bill Goldberg had already retired from wrestling after his historic run in the late 90s and early 2000s. Then, 2016 came and Goldberg came back to the WWE, which saw him be one of the WWE’s top guys until his run ended at Elimination Chamber 2022 at the hands of Roman Reigns. Since then, we haven’t heard much from Goldberg since even though he technically still had a contract with the WWE until recently.
Now, it appears Goldberg still hasn’t forgotten that Vince McMahon owes him one final match.
Here’s what the WWE Hall of Famer said about his agreement with the WWE chairman as part of his now-expired contract:
Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that, you know, after the Roman Reigns match I would have a proper retirement match. And, you know, that hasn’t come to fruition through them. So, therefore… You know, nobody puts a stamp on my career. Nobody tells me when I’m done, period. When somebody tells me that, you know, I kinda like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way and I go out my own way. And I certainly don’t go out, you know, under Roman Reigns, you know, three weeks after I’ve had COVID and agreed to a match.”
And, well, you kind of don’t blame Goldberg for wanting one final run.
For starters, the 56-year-old is in tremendous shape. In addition to this, his loss against Roman Reigns in Saudi Arabia two years ago didn’t exactly let him go down on a high note. At the very least, Goldberg would love to go out on top, just like how always did way back then.
If Triple H and Vince McMahon don’t respond, Goldberg isn’t above organizing his own retirement match in Israel.
But, of course, WWE fans would love to see one of their favorite wrestlers in action if only for the last time. Golberg was a pivotal part of the WCW, where he started his historic undefeated streak in 1997. Although Goldberg’s record wouldn’t stay undefeated for long, his dominance carried over well into his time in the WWE in 2003, which saw him squash most of his opponents, including Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20.

Wrestling fans might have divided opinions on Goldberg, especially given his recent performances, but he’s beloved in a lot of circles. Because of this, Goldberg won’t have trouble finding someone to give him his retirement match.
Who knows? Maybe AEW president, Tony Khan, will give Goldberg a call and have him help fill the arena for an upcoming PPV event one of these days.
