James Gunn is teasing a Marvel and DC crossover

Unfortunately, while a Marvel x DC crossover might finally happen, James Gunn says that it won't be here for a long time.

A DC x Marvel crossover film will exceed Avengers: Endgame in terms of ambition.

Avengers: Endgame is as big as a comic book movie can get, right? Well, as it turns out, James Gunn already has crossover ideas in mind.

As he gears up to release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn had a chance to sit down with Empire to talk about several things, including a potential crossover between Marvel and DC.

Here’s what Gunn said about a potential DC and Marvel mash-up:

I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC]. Who knows? That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.

As one of the most beloved directors from Marvel Studios, Gunn has Kevin Feige on speed dial. Unless things change within the next decade, Feige will most likely keep an open mind about crossing over into the DC Universe and vice versa.

Of course, as Gunn mentioned, DC Studios will have to establish itself first.

Both the MCU and DCU will have plenty of ways to explain how the crossover will happen.

The DCEU is in shambles and, technically, non-existent. All that Warner Bros. Discovery is doing now is releasing what’s left of the DCEU lineup as Gunn prepares the upcoming DCU slate, starting with Superman: Legacy, which premieres in 2025. If it performs well, as does the rest of the DCU, who knows? Feige might be more inclined to listen to a more serious proposal of seeing DC and Marvel crossover on the big screen.

In the meantime, comic book fans are getting their money’s worth in terms of crossovers as the Marvel Studios is knee-deep into the Multiverse Saga.

While the latest outing might not have done as well as expected, the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5 followed by The Marvels on November 10 as well as other TV shows in between should help get the hype ball rolling on the MCU again.
