The trailer is set to the tune of Since You’ve Been Gone by Rainbow. The music really sets the mood for the final Guardians of the Galaxy movie starring the original team, who are now sporting new outfits as a callback to their classic comic appearance.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 trailer breaks a major record
The two-minute trailer amassed 134.1 million views across social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. Social media analytics corporation RelishMix does an annual survey to measure the 24-hour viewership numbers of trailers premiering during the Super Bowl.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 surpassed F9 which garnered 110.9 million views during the 2020 Super Bowl. The Fast & Furious 9 trailer debuted before the Covid-19 outbreak changed the movie industry forever.
This year, several other movie trailers were added to RelishMix’s list of most watched Super Bowl trailers. Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ The Flash which is opening in theaters on June 16th became the third most-watched Super Bowl trailer.
Universal’s Fast X which will be premiering on May 19th currently sits in fourth place. Last year, Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness topped the charts, earning 93.1 million views, continuing a trend of strong numbers pulled by superhero films.
It is worth noting that the trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and The Flash were released on Super Bowl Sunday. The trailers for Fast X, Amazon Studios’ Air, and Paramount’s Scream VI were released ahead of the sporting event.
The resurgence in trailer viewership during the Super Bowl weekend can be attributed to the fact that movie theaters have reopened globally. The addition of the popular social media platform TikTok to the survey also contributed to the increase in viewership.
Guardians of the Galaxy opens in theaters on May 5, 2023.
