Keanu Reeves is best known for playing the titular character in the John Wick series these days. Before this, Reeves starred in one of the more underrated comic book films to come out of the 2000s, Constantine. Although it’s less popular, he’s also widely known for playing the titular character in the 2005 comic book adaptation Constantine.
After several years of calls for a sequel, a sequel was finally reported to be happening with Reeves returning. Unfortunately, Reeves now expressed his doubt that a sequel is happening.
The fan-favorite actor revealed his reservations during a recent interview with ComicBlend. While the interviewer was fanboying the actor and revealing he is a big fan of his Constantine act, he stated “We are trying, I don’t know if it’s going to happen.”
The interviewer followed this up with a question about whether the Matrix actor will go blonde for his next appearance as the character if it does happen. In response, the 58-year-old actor stated that he plays a different Constantine from the one in the comics. Then, he expressed his reservations about whether a blonde look will work on him before finally stating that “Hopefully I get to do it [Constantine], but, I don’t know. Hopefully we can play.”
Constantine 2 was announced prior to the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as DC Studios’ co-CEOs. When they took over the reins of affairs at the company, the two instituted several changes, including the cancellation of several projects, that cast doubts on whether the film will go forward.
However, despite Reeves’ misgivings, a report emerged last month that the film is still on track and nothing has changed.
If Constantine 2 does see the light of day, it will feature Keanu Reeves as the titular character once again. The film will also see Francis Lawrence return as the director, with Akiva Goldsman attached to pen the screenplay. Goldsman will also serve as producer alongside J. J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella with Erwin Stoff and Lorenzo di Bonaventura in executive producer roles.

In the meantime, fans can check out Reeves’ latest film, John Wick: Chapter 4, which has, so far, grossed over $137 million at the box office against a budget of $100 million in its first weekend. The film has been lauded as the best in the franchise and has received generally positive critics reviews since its debut.
The actor’s next appearance will come in Ballerina, which is a spin-off of his John Wick series.
