Microsoft just grew the list of games with FPS boost, adding a whopping 74 new games that support the feature on the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.
The long list of new games with FPS boost includes popular titles such as Metro: Last Light and Alien: Isolation. The update will allow the new games to support up to 120 frames per second for smoother gameplay on Microsoft's newest next-gen consoles. Microsoft Drops Its Largest FPS Boost Update Yet Hollow Knight was part of the 70+ games that received the FPS Boost update for the Xbox Series S/X.
Xbox Senior Program Manager, Paul Eng, first announced the FPS Boost feature back in February 2021. At the time, only five games had FPS Boost support. This includes Far Cry 4, Sniper Elite 4, Watch Dogs 2, UFC 4, and New Super Lucky's Tale. Soon after, a handful of Bethesda titles joined the FPS Boost lineup following Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media. Fast forward to today, and there are now as many as 97 games that support FPS Boost on the Xbox Series S/X.
Microsoft's continued support for older titles stands in stark contrast to Sony's stance. Unlike Microsoft, Sony currently features next-gen enhancements for very few of its previous titles. Chief among those is Ghost of Tsushima and Genshin Impact. Otherwise, Sony hasn't really bothered to make older games run smoother and look better on the PlayStation 5.
With that said, it is worth noting that the FPS Boost feature works mostly on the Xbox Series X only. If you happen to have an Xbox Series S, you shouldn't expect to have as many games that support FPS Boost. In fact, graphically-intensive games like Battlefield 1 don't have FPS Boost on the Xbox Series S.
