Yu-Gi-Oh! is going through a bit of a revival these days, thanks mostly to the success of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. Perhaps it is due to this influx of returning and incoming players that Konami made a notable change to the list of banned cards.

According to the updated list of forbidden and limited cards for the trading card game, the cards, “Change of Heart” and “Yata-Garasu”, are now eligible for official games.

Upon further checking, the last time that Konami allowed these cards into play was nearly two decades ago. Change of Heart, in particular, has been banned since April 2005, which is right around the same time that Yu-Gi-Oh! peaked due to the popularity of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters animated series that ran from 2000 to 2006.

Starting Tuesday, players can have a single copy of either card in their Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck combined.

Fans who grew up watching the original Yu-Gi-Oh! animated show will have fond memories of the Change of Heart card. This spell card played a prominent role in the series. Its effect, which allows players to take complete control of an opponent’s summoned monsters and use it against them for one turn, can and has turned numerous battles around. Because of this, Konami banned Change of Heart.

Change of Heart is a card commonly associated with Yami Yugi, Yami Bakura, and Noah Kaiba.

To no one’s surprise, fans quickly picked up on the news of the return of Change of Heart. Discussion boards, forums, and social media are now full of players eager to use Change of Heart in their side deck, labeling it as a “must-have”.
