We blame Creative Assembly for raising our standards when it comes to video games based on movies. The survival horror game is easily one of the most terrifying games ever made. The worst part is that no studio has topped it since, but it’s not because no studio tried.
Last year’s Aliens: Fireteam was a decent attempt if a bit half-baked. On the other hand, Aliens: Dark Descent shows promise but we won’t know for sure if it’s good until it comes out. Yet, neither of these two games have a chance to be as good as Alien: Isolation. The good news is that an upcoming Aliens game from Survios might.
After working on The Walking Dead Onslaught and Sprint Vector, the studio will work on a single-player Aliens game simply titled as “Aliens.
According to Survios, Aliens will be an “intense single-player, action horror game set in the iconic Alien universe.” The game, which will use Unreal Engine 5, will tell a story set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens films that will revolve around a “battle hardened veteran” that apparently has it out for the titular intergalactic creatures.
The listed genre suggests that Aliens isn’t purely a horror game. However, this is still better than a full-on action title like the more recent outings. If we were to speculate, Aliens will be less Alien: Isolation and more Resident Evil.
We’ll find out more about Aliens on July 21 at the San Diego Comic-Con. For now, all that we know is that Aliens will come out for the PC and presumably next-gen consoles as well as VR.
