Ubisoft now selling its games on Amazon Luna

Amazon Luna costs 9.99/month alone but it's free if you're subscribed to Amazon Prime, which will set you back $14.99 per month or $139 per year.

The best thing about Amazon Luna is that you won't have to worry about investing big on a separate device for cloud streaming.

Amazon’s cloud gaming platform, Luna, is expanding its library with the help of Ubisoft. Subscribers can now check out Assassin’s Creed Mirage less than a year after Amazon let PC gamers sync their Ubisoft+ account with their Luna account.

The added ability to buy games, even it’s specific only to those made by Ubisoft, is a welcome feature. Before, Luna had limited its games selection to specific content channels or games you already own on the PC via Ubisoft+.

Amazon clarifies that Ubisoft games you buy via your Luna account will be available to play offline on the PC.

The holidays are the best time to subscribe to Amazon Prime.

The Verge reports that Ubisoft’s Jessica Roache has confirmed that subscribers can play the games they bought on Luna on other streaming platforms like GeForce Now. Just be careful, because not everyone game has cross-progression.

Perhaps the best news is that they won’t lose access to the titles they bought via Luna if they stop subscribing. Instead, all they’ll lose is the ability to stream the games on Luna. Otherwise, they’ll be able to play their games on other platforms.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Google Stadia did the same thing and we all know how it turned out. Hopefully, this cloud gaming platform won’t suffer the same fate. Unfortunately, it’s unclear what Amazon has planned for Luna. The best case scenario is it expands its library by letting other developers in on the same deal as Ubisoft.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be available to play and buy on Luna when it comes out in December.

If it’s any consolation, the e-commerce titan says that the subscribers will own the licenses for the games they purchase. The list of Luna-enabled devices include PCs, Macs, Amazon’s Own Fire TV and Fire Tablets, Apple’s iPhone and iPad, Android devices, and a handful of Samsung Smart TV models.

Ubisoft most recently released Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which, although didn’t pull in excellent reviews on Metacritic, is a welcome change of pace from the series’ expansive open-world settings in recent years. It remains unclear if it was a successful game that justifies the effort to bring the franchise back to its stealth-oriented roots. We’ll find out more in the next few years depending on the direction Ubisoft will take with its upcoming slate of Assassin’s Creed games, starting with Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR.

Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup of non-Assassin’s Creed games include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
