Liam Hemsworth recently took over Henry Cavill’s role as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher. But, if we believe the recent reports, Hemsworth’s tenure as Geralt may be shorter than that of his predecessor.
The Witcher premiered on the streaming platform in 2019 and gained a huge following after its first two seasons. However, the show’s fortunes have quickly turned last year as Cavill announced his departure from the show. To make matters worse, the spin-off series The Witcher: Blood Origins premiered in December and has been panned by critics and viewers.
While the show may be encountering some troubles, insider Redanian Intelligence reports that the series is still on track for a fourth season with a fifth and “final” season also being planned.

The Witcher has only been renewed until season 4, so a fifth one is still up in the air. It will likely depend on how much of the story gets included in the fourth season. Redanian Intelligence also revealed Season 4 is very early in its development and plans may change over time.
Netflix has gained a reputation for canceling TV shows on the streaming platform. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos had recently denied that the streaming giant cancels successful TV shows. “We have never canceled a successful show. A lot of these shows were well-intended but talk to a very small audience on a very big budget,” Sarandos said.
Cavill announced that he is leaving The Witcher after completing the filming of the third season. The actor did not reveal the reason for his departure. But, it’s no secret that the actor has expressed his frustrations regarding the show’s faithfulness to the source material, or the lack thereof.
Fans have been up in arms over the departure of Cavill from the show. A petition has been launched by fans to retain Cavill as Geralt of Rivia but it may be a little too late now.
Speaking of losing roles, Cavill is also no longer Superman as the DC Universe looks to cast a younger actor as The Man of Steel. We also recently reported that the actor has also been replaced by Chris Hemsworth in the remake of the cult classic film Highlander. But, Cavill isn’t going to be going into hiding anytime soon, as he’s working on a live-action adaptation of Warhammer 40,000 with Amazon Studios involving a TV series and a full-length feature film.
The Witcher season 3 is slated for release sometime in the summer of 2023.
