It has been an interesting week for Henry Cavill. The actor lost his job as Superman after DC Studios decided to go in a different direction with the character. However, he looks to have found an equally awesome gig as a replacement.
It seems that Cavill did not have to wait long as reports suggest that he will be starring and producing a live-action adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 series. Amazon is currently in the process of acquiring the rights to the popular miniature wargame franchise. Apparently, the streaming giant is in the final stages of striking a deal with Games Workshop, the company behind Warhammer 40,000.
Aside from Cavill, no other names have been attached to the project. Amazon may wait for the deal to be finalized before it begins the process of searching for a screenwriter and a director for the upcoming series. Fans of the series may have to wait a long while before the show starts production.
Warhammer 40K is a popular tabletop wargame set 40,000 years into the future where the different factions wage a never-ending war against one another. The game features several factions including humans called the Imperium of Man and the elven Aeldari. Other factions include servants of the Chaos God, an ancient skeleton-like race of Androids, green-skinned Orks, blue-skinned T’au, and the mysterious Tyranids.
Cavill has been a big fan of the Warhammer series and has long been interested in making a show based on the tabletop game. The actor confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 show in an Instagram post.
"For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action." the actor writes. "Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon."
"And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer. To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen," Cavill adds.
"Our first steps are to find our Filmmaker/Creator/Writer. Watch this space, my friends."
Aside from Superman, the actor also played Geralt of Rivia in the popular The Witcher series for Netflix. Cavill walked away from the series after three seasons and announced that Liam Hemsworth is taking his place as Geralt in season 4 of the series.
The actor is also a big gamer and has posted videos of himself putting together an awesome gaming rig. He is known to spend time playing video games when he is not busy filming projects. Fans are wondering what games the actor will play now that he has some free time on his hands.
Henry Cavill’s final season of The Witcher will be airing sometime in 2023. A prequel series for The Witcher called The Witcher: Blood Origins will start streaming on Christmas Day next week.
