Ridley Scott’s masterpiece, Alien, occupies a somewhat lofty position among horror fans. The 1979 space horror film spawned an IP and a franchise that has persisted in pop culture for more than four decades. Now, its legend is about to get even bigger by invading a new game.
Behaviour Interactive, the video game company behind Dead by Daylight, has teased a crossover between its survival horror game and the original Alien film. On Tuesday, the studio released a new trailer that teased the collaboration and we have to admit it is full of promise.
Alien’s Xenomorph is a formidable villain by itself. But when combined with Dead by Daylight, its fear factor increases tenfold. At the moment, we do not have much information about the new content which will bring the alien to the already star-studded cast of the multiplayer slasher title.
Behaviour Interactive released a caption with the trailer that said, “The suffocating silence of outer space pushes resolve beyond its limits.” Beyond telling us what we already know – that the expansion will see Dead by Daylight crossover with Alien – it doesn’t tell us anything new.
Fortunately, the developer has promised to provide more information on the game on Tuesday, August 8.
Despite the dearth of information, we suspect Xenomorph is not the only character from the Alien franchise that will step into the Dead by Daylight universe. Although there is nothing to confirm it yet, we think Ellen Ripley will join as one of the survivors in Dead by Daylight.
The reason we think this is that her cat, Jones, appears in the trailer. Ordinarily, such a brief appearance wouldn’t be enough to make such a conclusion. However, the cat appeared extraordinarily relaxed and we take that to mean its guardian, Ellen Ripley, is close by.
Dead by Daylight is an online survival horror game that involves five players. Of the five, one player is designated the Killer, while the other four are designated Survivors. To play the game, the Survivors must do everything within their power to avoid capture by the Killer and escape the setting.
Dead by Daylight has collaborated with many IPs over its existence and Alien is only the latest of these. The asymmetrical title’s last collaboration was last month when it added actor Nicolas Cage to its lineup as one of the survivors.
If you are a Dead by Daylight fan, we hardly need to tell you how successful that collaboration was. Behaviour Interactive has an opportunity here to create something better and iconic with its Alien expansion. Whether it will manage to pull it off is yet another story and one we will find out when the expansion arrives.
Other IPs the game has featured include Saw, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Evil Dead, Stranger Things, Hellraiser, Resident Evil, and Halloween.
