Horror fans have a reason to feel equal parts frightened and joyful as Behaviour Interactive has announced the addition of Chucky, the notorious killer doll from the iconic Child’s Play franchise, to its popular asymmetrical multiplayer game, Dead by Daylight. This highly anticipated update, set to release on November 28, not only brings Chucky into the game but also his equally sadistic counterpart, Tiffany Valentine.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this update is the return of the original voice actors for these iconic characters. A pair of familiar voices, Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly, will welcome players as they reprise their murderous roles as the couple, Chucky and Tiffany, respectively, adding an authentic touch to the gaming experience.

Chucky’s introduction as a Killer in Dead by Daylight brings a unique dynamic to Dead by Daylight. Known for having a diminutive stature that belies his devious nature, Chucky boasts outstanding sneaking abilities, making him an elusive adversary. His “Scamper” ability allows him to vault through windows and move under pallets, enabling him to close in on his prey undetected. Furthermore, his “Slice & Dice” ability allows him to lunge forward unexpectedly, catching Survivors off guard.

Despite his small size, Chucky is not at a disadvantage. The spirit of his human form, Charles Lee Ray, assists him in the game, aiding in hooking Survivors and disrupting their repair efforts. This creative approach to character design allows Chucky to overcome the limitations of his physical stature while maintaining the essence of his character.

The addition of Chucky to Dead by Daylight enriches the game’s already impressive roster of horror icons, which is, so far, expanded with the addition of Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Pyramid Head, the Xenomorph, and Pinhead. It’s his arrival that proves that the studio remains committed to engaging fans with fresh and exciting content.

The integration of Chucky into the game has required careful planning and execution. His unique size and abilities might have posed a challenge to the game developers, leading to the first implementation of a killer character played from a third-person view in Dead by Daylight. This perspective shift is a strategic decision, balancing Chucky’s innate stealth advantage while providing players with an adequate field of view. It’s a bold move that demonstrates Behaviour Interactive’s willingness to innovate and adapt to bring diverse characters into the game.

Dead by Daylight's formula, while often imitated, continues to prove successful but only for itself.

Chucky’s presence in Dead by Daylight is about enhancing the gameplay experience as well. His abilities and perks, such as Hidey-Ho Mode, which makes him extremely stealthy, and the Slice & Dice attack, which allows for a rapid, forceful assault, bring new strategies and challenges to both Killer and Survivor players. These additions ensure that the game remains dynamic and engaging for its community.

Chucky’s arrival in Dead by Daylight is further heightened by the ongoing success of the Chucky TV series, which is now on its third season. This cross-media synergy adds to the excitement and relevance of Chucky’s inclusion in the game.

As November 28 approaches, players eagerly await the opportunity to either play as Chucky, employing his unique skill set, or to face him in the terrifying environment of Dead by Daylight.

At this rate, it won’t be long before we see M3Gan, this year’s surprise horror icon, arrive in Dead by Daylight ahead of the sequel’s release in 2025.
