CD Projekt RED has announced a substantial update for Cyberpunk 2077, slated to release on December 5, just months after dropping a game-changing free update. This incoming update, Update 2.1, comes alongside the Ultimate Edition and brings a much-anticipated feature to the game: a fully working metro system in Night City. This addition is not just a mere expansion but a significant overhaul, fundamentally changing how players interact with the game’s expansive urban environment.

The introduction of the metro system in Cyberpunk 2077 is a direct response to the community’s requests. Players have longed for a more immersive way to explore Night City, and CD Projekt RED has listened. The original game trailer and the Phantom Liberty cinematic trailer featured glimpses of a metro system, sparking players’ interest. With the new update, this system becomes a reality, significantly enhancing the game’s immersive quality.

The metro system, officially known as the Night City Area Rapid Transit (NCART), will offer 19 stations across five lines, enabling players to navigate Night City in a new, dynamic way. This system is designed to be more than just a means of transport; it’s a role-playing feature that allows players to experience the city’s hustle and bustle up close. Players can choose to ride the metro in real-time, taking in the sights and sounds of the city, or opt for a fast-forward travel option to quickly reach their destination.

At this rate, CD Projekt RED should probably go ahead and confirm that it's working on more DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077.

The implementation of the metro system is a thoughtful addition to Cyberpunk 2077’s gameplay. It becomes accessible after the Konpeki Plaza sequence in the game, ensuring that it fits seamlessly into the game’s narrative structure. The metro system’s introduction is indicative of CD Projekt RED’s commitment to enhancing the game’s role-playing elements, providing players with new ways to engage with the game world.

Besides the metro system, Update 2.1 brings other notable enhancements to Cyberpunk 2077. The update also includes improvements to boss fights, making them more challenging and engaging. For instance, Adam Smasher, a central bad guy, has been revamped to offer a more intense combat experience. This change addresses long-standing player about the disparity between Smasher’s portrayal in the game and in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, which, unfortunately, isn’t getting a second season.

From memes and mods to reality, the metro in Cyberpunk 2077 has definitely taken the scenic route to getting implemented in the game.

Another significant addition is the ability to replay car races, adding to the game’s replayability. Winning a race will now grant players discounts on new vehicles, incentivizing players to participate in these challenges. On top of this, the 2.1 update introduces more vehicles, including five motorcycles and Johnny Silverhand’s iconic Porsche 911, obtainable via a new quest. Motorcycle mechanics have been upgraded, adding new elements like wheelies, flips, and leans. This makes riding motorcycles in the game more exciting and realistic. The update also includes the ability to throw knives and axes from bikes, adding a new dimension to combat.

In terms of accessibility, CDPR has made significant strides. The update introduces a dedicated accessibility menu that’s aimed at consolidating existing settings and introducing new features like disabling the hacking minigame’s timer. This move shows the developer’s commitment to making Cyberpunk 2077 more inclusive and enjoyable for a broader range of players.

Update 2.1 is a testament to CD Projekt RED’s dedication to improving Cyberpunk 2077. By listening to player feedback and continuously refining the game, the developer has shown a commitment to delivering a rich, immersive experience. The addition of the metro system and other enhancements in Update 2.1 represent a significant step forward in helping to realize the full potential of Cyberpunk 2077, offering players new ways to explore and engage with Night City.

Night City feels as lively as ever with the upcoming update to Cyberpunk 2077.

With that said, it wouldn’t surprise us if Cyberpunk 2077 ends up posting a record high in copies sold after the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Update 2.1 on December 5.
