David Corenswet is getting seriously jacked up to become the ultimate Man of Steel

Before he can become a symbol of hope for all of humanity, David Corenswet must first fit into the iconic red cape.

The DC Universe is revving up for a grand comeback. Naturally, at the heart of this revival is none other than the boyscout himself, Superman, and his upcoming solo film, Superman: Legacy.

With David Corenswet wearing the cape as Clark Kent, things are already looking up for DC. Remember when Corenswet said in 2019 he’d love to see an optimistic Superman flick? Well, it seems like he’s manifesting his own dreams.

Celebrity trainer Paolo Mascitti recently dropped a gym photo of Corenswet with the caption “THE LEGACY,” and boy, does he look jacked! He’s clearly pulling out all the stops to fill the Kryptonian’s boots, or, should we say, cape? The pressure’s on, especially with Henry Cavill having set the bar sky-high with his hulking Superman physique, but from the looks of it, Corenswet is up to the challenge.

Superman: Legacy has been advertised as the torchbearer of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC slate. Following a younger Superman, the film will explore his journey to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Playing alongside Corenswet will be Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, a role that was challenging to cast due to Amy Adams’ exceptional portrayal in the DCEU films.

Interestingly, this isn’t just Corenswet’s big break, as it also marks a major pivot for DC Studios. Now that Gunn and Safran are serving as the co-CEOs of the revamped DC, the studio is looking to shake things up in a serious way.

Gone are the days when DC lagged behind Marvel. With a strategy to weave connecting narratives across its films that will span a 10-year vision, DC’s gearing up for a Marvel-esque cinematic universe. If Gunn manages to see through his ambitious dream, we can expect to see interlocking stories involving Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, and even the Joker.

The casting of Superman: Legacy has been intriguing as well, given the film’s expansive superhero (and villain) roster. So far, Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl have been confirmed to appear, while The Engineer, played by Maria Gabriela de Faria, is set to join the villains in Superman: Legacy. As a part of The Authority, The Engineer is an interesting addition that might just flip the script on what we think of as a villain.

Although Corenswet is flexing his muscles for the role, DC Studios is flexing its creative might. Between filming Twisters and The Greatest Hits and starring in Apple TV Plus’s Lady in the Lake, Corenswet’s schedule is jam-packed. Then again, who wouldn’t clear their calendar to play Superman?

Filming for Superman: Legacy is scheduled to begin in March next year, and our only hope is that it will be a statement from DC telling the world – we’re back, and we’re not playing around. So, circle the date, ready your popcorn, and prepare for a Superman story that’s bright, optimistic, and, judging by Corenswet’s biceps, packed with action.

Superman: Legacy will make its debut on July 11, 2025.
