he anticipation among fans for the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU is palpable, to the extent that some claim to have discovered subtle references to the mutant superhero team within Loki Season 2. But, as it turns out, they were just imagining things. The show’s director has taken a moment to address the rampant theories circulating on social media.
Many fans thought that the doors to the TVA’s temporal loom resembled Cerebro, a machine that telepaths like Professor X and Jean Grey use to locate fellow mutants. The doors of the temporal loom have a similar X pattern meeting at the center and a circular centerpiece which does look a bit like the doors to Cerebro. Fans thought that this was an easter egg for the X-Men, who have yet to be added to the MCU.
However, Loki’s production designer and director of Episode 3 Kasra Farahani recently debunked the popular easter egg theory making rounds on social media. In an interview with Comicbook.com, the director quickly ended the speculation about the X-Men.

“No, I don’t even know the doors people are talking about, honestly,” Farahani said. “It’s not. We were looking at a lot of subterranean missile bunkers, missile silos from the Cold War era. There’s some insanely, heavy fortified doors in those bunkers and that’s where that’s coming from.”
Farahani added that he is focused on showcasing the growth and maturity of Loki as a character in season 2. The director wants to highlight the evolution of Loki from The God of Mischief in Thor to what he is now in the Disney+ series.
“[Loki Season 2 is] about the growth of the character and the maturing of Loki. Tom has embodied this character for a really long time, now. As it happens, I worked on Thor 1 myself,” Farahani explains. “So, I’ve been there from the start with that but Tom has evolved and refined and created this super-rich and textured and now layered version of Loki which is an amalgamation of all the Loki’s that came before.”
He added, “Loki has this phase, ‘I’m burdened with glorious purpose.’ I’ve always thought of the Loki from the pre-Loki series, the Loki from the movies, as preoccupied with the ‘glorious’ part of that phrase and in the first season, he’s preoccupied with finding purpose, I think. In this season, he’s taking on a lot of burden.”
There has been a lot of talk about the X-Men in recent months. Most of the rumors point to the mutant team making a debut in Deadpool 3. Even Taylor Swift was roped into the whole X-Men rumor mill.
We will surely see the X-Men in the MCU sooner or later. It will really be interesting to watch how Marvel incorporates the superhero team and all its unique characters into the cinematic universe. It’s likely that Marvel Studios will slowly and deliberately introduce characters in cameos and post-credits scenes before fans get a full-blown X-Men movie. For now, we are just excited to see which characters make an appearance in Deadpool 3.
