Prime Video’s Invincible, based on the comic series of the same name, is one of the most popular adult animated series of the last few years. The show impressed critics and attracted many viewers on the streamer so it was no surprise to anyone when it was renewed for two more seasons – and now we’ve been treated to a first glimpse of the second season.
Ahead of the second season’s debut early next month, Prime Video finally released the official trailer at the New York Comic Con on Saturday. The streaming giant also released an exclusive episode clip at the convention, with the show’s co-showrunners Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa appearing on a panel to engage fans on the series.
The trailer provides glimpses of what is to come in the upcoming season. It opens with a reminder of what happened at the end of the first season when Omni-Man dealt Earth and his loved ones a huge blow. Heh. It shows many people dealing with the Viltrumite’s betrayal, from his wife Debbie Grayson, and his son Mark Grayson to the Director of the Global Defense Agency, Cecil Steadman.
Next, the trailer gives a sneak peek into Mark Grayson’s mind and fears. Before his father went on the rampage, Mark Grayson had a lifelong desire to be like him. Now, his greatest fear is that this will come to pass, and he’s coming to grips with his legacy.
The trailer also teases the action that is to come in the new season, including a showdown with the supervillain Angstrom Levy. We also see what we assume is the Coalition of Planets discussing what to do with Mark given his Viltrumite heritage.
The show’s synopsis explains that “the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season 1, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.”

Invincible Season 2 is one of the most anticipated shows this year, especially since the co-creator Kirkman said it will feel much bigger than the first season. After the trailer’s release, fans of the show took to social media to gush about their excitement. Some of them even admitted it has piqued their curiosity about the comics it is adapted from – though the first season did this, too.
If the new season lives up to the hype we’ve seen, there is a huge possibility Amazon will extend the show for a few more seasons. Last month, Kirkman admitted they would require seven or eight seasons to do the source material justice and tell a story that fans will love.
Invincible Season 2 will be released in two parts of four episodes each. The first part will premiere on Prime Video on November 3, 2023, while the second part will arrive on the same platform early next year.
