Hugh Jackman gives a sneak peek into his Wolverine workout

Hugh Jackman's last appearance came in 2017's Logan and he was originally adamant that he never wanted to return as the character.

Hugh Jackman is preparing to bare his Wolverine claws again for the first time since 2017’s Logan. The actor took some convincing before he agreed to don the mutant’s costume again but once he did, he’s been barreling through to get in shape for the role.

Even better, he gives us regular peeks into his return journey as the strong, incredibly fast-healing, and adamantium-infused mutant. In his latest update, Jackman lets us in on his intense training regimen to get his body in shape. The images and video he shared had the caption, “Hurts so good.”

In the video, we see Jackman sporting a full beard and looking quite buff which we take as evidence of his hard and focused work. Then, we see him grimace in that very familiar “I wish I didn’t have to do this but I don’t have a choice” way just before he lies down to continue his bench press.

Jackman’s Wolverine is a physically demanding role that has, in the past, required him to put on an incredible amount of muscle mess. With this history, the 54-year-old actor’s intense workout comes as hardly a surprise. However, we find it very impressive given his advanced age.

It appears we aren’t alone in our admiration. Many fans expressed similar sentiments on his social media pages as they offered words of support to the Australian.

Jackman will reprise his role in Deadpool 3, alongside Ryan Reynolds. The film began production in the first half of the year. Unfortunately, the SAG-AFTRA strike began, which meant that production had to be halted. While the SAG-AFTRA strike means he can’t be on set doing what he loves, Jackman hasn’t stopped working as we can see from his unrelenting training regimen.

Sadly, the pause brought on by the strike may set back the film’s current release date. When the strike began, the film was only halfway into production. As a result, there is still a significant amount of footage to be shot. When you factor in post-production work and marketing, it almost seems inevitable that the studio will have to delay its release by a few months, at the very least.

We’ve even heard rumors to that effect but since Marvel hasn’t made any official announcement, we have no choice but to take them with a pinch of salt. Whether the film arrives on schedule or not, what is more important is that it delivers on the promise of good chemistry between Jackman’s Wolverine and Reynolds’s Deadpool.

By the way, Jackman isn’t the only old-time superhero that returning in Deadpool 3. Jennifer Garner, who played Elektra Natchios in 2003’s Daredevil, will reprise her role while Liev Schreiber has also been rumored to return as Sabretooth from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Until Marvel says otherwise, Deadpool 3 is on course to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024.
