At this year’s recently-concluded San Diego Comic-Con, fans of Amazon Prime Video’s popular animated superhero series, Invincible, were rewarded with much-anticipated updates.
Among the most exciting reveals, it was confirmed that the premiere of the show’s second season will kick off later this year with the rest of the episodes coming a few months later. But, that’s not all. After enduring over a two-year gap between the first season and the next one, fans can rest easy knowing that voice recordings for Season 3 are already complete.
This promising development comes straight from Robert Kirkman, one of the co-creators of Invincible. Kirkman teamed up with Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley to breathe life into Invincible, the comic book series that began in 2003 and concluded last February after 144 gripping issues.
What a week!!! To recap what we learned about the show…
– ATOM EVE special episode live NOW. Go watch it. Twice. Three times, maybe?
– Atom Eve is the best. This is not new information, it just should be reiterated whenever possible.

Kirkman has been open about the challenges faced in bringing Invincible to the small screen. “This is a very complicated show,” he stated during an interview with ComicBook.com. “Making an animated series is akin to assembling a factory and getting it up and running. Now that we have everything in place, this will be the longest gap between seasons. From this point on, every gap between seasons will be smaller.”
A quick overview for those unacquainted with Invincible: the series orbits around the life of Mark Grayson, an 18-year-old who seems like every other guy his age – until you consider that his father, Omni-Man, is (or was) the planet’s most potent superhero.
Season 2 finds Mark grappling with his father’s betrayal and wrestling with his greatest fear – becoming his father without even realizing it. All this while facing a multitude of threats. A star-studded ensemble, including the voices of Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, and Mark Hamill, further elevates this exciting narrative.

The scheduling for the second season is divided into two parts: the first half is due to air on November 3 on Prime Video. After a mid-season hiatus, the remainder of the episodes will become available for streaming in early 2024.
Season 2’s arrival was heralded by a special standalone episode dedicated to Atom Eve, one of the show’s most important characters. The release of this 55-minute special and the flurry of teaser trailers for Season 2, along with the announcement of the completion of Season 3’s voice recordings, resulted in a surge of enthusiasm among fans.
Nevertheless, Invincible Season 3 still has a long journey ahead before it hits screens. Much work remains in the realm of animation, yet the completion of voice work serves as a hopeful beacon that the release could be anticipated for next year.

For enthusiasts wearied by the ongoing MCU and DC discourses, Invincible arrives as a refreshing reprieve. Its unique blend of suspense, action, and emotional depth, paired with a distinct visual style, has seen it carve a niche for itself in a crowded landscape. Not only has it successfully managed to distinguish itself, but it has also amassed a dedicated fanbase who eagerly awaits the unfolding chapters of Mark Grayson’s tumultuous journey.
There’s no confirmed release date for Invincible Season 3, but the certainty of its development offers a beacon of hope. In the meantime, viewers can relish the imminent release of Season 2, due on November 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
Whether you’re a seasoned comic book enthusiast or a newcomer to this genre, Invincible provides a fresh, compelling exploration of superhero dynamics and the turmoil they can unleash.

And, while you’re at it, you might want to check out The Boys: Gen V, which premieres on September 29, as well.
Invincible’s expansion isn’t exclusive to future seasons. A live-action adaptation is currently in the works as is a video game adaptation by Ubisoft, among others. Finally, Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker are joining Mortal Kombat 1 as DLC characters.
