The first season of Invincible has been very well received on Amazon Prime. While fans are waiting for the second season of the adult animated show, the series creator has some positive updates on the long-awaited live-action adaptation.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, series creator Robert Kirkman opened up about the movie adaptation of Invincible. Kirkman assured fans that they are still working on it and some things are worth the wait.
"We're very much still working on that," Kirkman said during the interview. "Sometimes movies take a little bit longer. I think it's safe to say, if anything, the show has just helped that immensely."
He adds, "People are very excited about that movie potential at Universal. So, we're riding that excitement and trying to push things forward as quickly as possible."
Fans will surely be thrilled that the live-action movie is progressing. The comic book series is celebrating its 20th this year.
What we know about the live-action adaptation of Invincible
The Invincible movie was announced in 2017 with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as co-writers and co-directors. Point Grey Pictures and Skybound Entertainment are producing the live-action adaptation.
One question from fans is how the movie will use the source material in conjunction with the Amazon Prime series. Kirkman confirmed the live-action film will not be related to the anime series.
"So, those two things are still very much happening concurrently, which is somewhat weird, I guess," Kirkman said. "But there've been Spider-Man animated series and Spider-Man movies at the same time. So, I think we're in good company."
The movie is taking a long time as Kirkman, Rogen, and Goldberg are making sure that the movie will be different from the animated series but still remain faithful to the comic books. Rogen and Goldberg’s work on The Boys and Preacher is a good testament to how they approach the source material.
Kirkman also confirmed it will keep cast crossover between both projects to a minimum to keep the live-action adaptation separate from the animated show. However, no actors have been cast in the project as of writing. It will likely be a while before the live-action adaptation begins filming.
Invincible has been renewed on Amazon Prime for two more seasons. Season 2 is premiering this year on the streaming service. The first season of the animated series was very well received by audiences with a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The first season of Invincible is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
