Kingpin-focused storyline hinted by Daredevil: Born Again set photos

The upcoming Daredevil series will feature the return of Kingpin and Vanessa Fisk, with the latter being played by a new actress.

Daredevil: Born Again continues to prove that it's a different show from the one that premiered on Netflix many years ago.

The filming of Daredevil: Born Again in New York is already underway and it recently gave us a glimpse of a massive change that the upcoming Disney+ series is going to make.

As reported, Ayelet Zurer, who previously played Kingpin’s wife, Vanessa Fisk, is no more. In her place is Sandrine Holt as the new Vanessa Fisk.

However, the recent set of photos teases that the recast comes with more than just a change of face.

In the set photos, we can see Holt wearing a different style of wardrobe compared to Zurer’s portrayal of the character. If nothing else, it teases an interesting path for Fisk’s beloved wife going forward.

Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance as Kingpin is so good that the show could very well be named after him instead of the titular hero.

The original comic book storyline, Born Again, is a tale steeped in betrayal, loss, and redemption. It sees the titular protagonist, Daredevil, also known as Matt Murdock, losing everything he has, forcing him to confront his inner demons. The man behind his spiral down towards oblivion is none other than the Kingpin, one of Daredevil’s fiercest foes, and a character that has been a constant presence in every iteration of Daredevil, the MCU and the now-defunct Netflix’s Marvel TV universe included.

If the show is like the comic books, Vanessa’s relationship with his criminal mastermind husband will play a central role in the “Born Again” storyline, which adds an emotional layer to the intense drama that’s set to unfold.

As Daredevil faces his biggest challenge yet, viewers will see a man grappling with his identity while also standing against overwhelming odds. Stripped of everything that he’s ever worked on and even his superhero identity, Murdock will have to dig deep to find exactly what motivates him as a hero.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has already hinted at a dark side several times but Born Again will show him at his most desperate yet.

Marvel Studios’ recent revelations bode well for the quality of Daredevil: Born Again. It’s shameful that it isn’t going to be R-rated on Disney+ but it will be “edgier” than anything else on the platform. Not to mention, a familiar fan-favorite face like Jon Bernthal will reprise his role. Finally, with Marvel Studios emphasizing quality over quantity with Disney doing the same, Daredevil: Born Again has a shot at being one of the best shows that Marvel Studios has ever produced when it comes out in early spring 2024.
