We’ve got good news: Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has finally confirmed what that cryptic teaser that he deleted off of the face of the internet was all about.
Unfortunately, it’s not about a GTA game.
It appears that Fiddy isn’t joining Dr. Dre in collaborating with Rockstar Games on Grand Theft Auto. It’s now known that his earlier tease was about an unrelated TV series that’s airing on Paramount+.
Deadline reports that Paramount+ and 50 Cent’s very own G-Unit Film & TV division is working on a “Vice City” TV show. It has a story that follows three former soldiers, who are dishonorably discharged from service, as they try to navigate their way through Miami in the mid-80s.
Here’s the show’s description:
Disgraced, displaced, and forgotten by the country they served and with no good job prospects, the three friends partner with a mysterious Colombian immigrant, uniting their financial needs and criminal ambitions to form a heist crew. Fueled by the need for American green, they traverse a violent and dangerous path in pursuit of the American Dream.
If it’s any consolation, the plot sounds like it could pass off as a DLC for a GTA game. We’re not saying it is, but it’s over-the-top enough to work.
Also, 50 Cent wasn’t kidding when he said that this is “bigger than Power”. The project boasts several big names behind the scenes, starting with Chad Stahelski as its executive producer and director. Everything that the John Wick veteran has touched so far has turned to gold, so we’ve got high hopes for the Vice City series.
In addition, Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters, the writers of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, are executive producers and co-writers of Vice City.
So, even if this doesn’t end up being related to Grand Theft Auto, we could be looking at the next big hit for Paramount+.
As for the next Grand Theft Auto game, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive remains elusive on details regarding the sixth mainline installment in one of gaming’s best-selling franchises. All that we know so far is that it may be set in Vice City and set in the modern day. It might come out after 2025 as well, as per the latest earnings report from Take-Two Interactive. But, an insider insists that Rockstar has set a hard deadline of early 2025.
