James Gunn and Peter Safran recently revealed Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters for the new DC Universe. While several other DC shows have been canceled, one of the current TV series that will be included in DC’s future plans is Harley Quinn.
Fans of the animated TV series on HBO max can rest easy knowing that Harley Quinn will continue on HBO Max. Many viewers were concerned that the show would be canceled alongside some of the existing DC projects such as DC’s Titans and Doom Patrol on HBO as the new vision for the DC Universe was unveiled.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that the show will be part of the new slate of projects. We’re going to keep forward with that,” Gunn said of Harley Quinn.
Peter Safran described the show as “fantastic.” This led to a quip from Gunn, “yeah, considering I’m on the show.” The director appeared as himself in a series of cameos in the third season of Harley Quinn. In the animated series, Gunn is working on a biopic based on the life of Thomas Wayne.
Harley Quinn was already been renewed for a fourth season on the streaming service way back in August of last year. There was a great deal of uncertainty about the fate of the series when it was announced that Gunn and Safran were taking over after the departure of Walter Hamada. The comments from the co-CEOs may be an assurance that the series will continue to be part of the DCU moving forward.

It has been amazing to watch the show grow and evolve this season and we could not ask for a more talented and dedicated team of collaborators,” Billy Wee, HBO Senior VP of Comedy & Animation for HBO Max, said of the renewal.
Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President at Warner Bros. Animation adds, “Three seasons down and I can’t even begin to think about the new levels of chaos and trouble that Harley, Ivy, and the gang can get into with a fourth season. But I’m grateful to our partners at HBO Max for continuing this insane ride with us so we can all find out.”
Harley Quinn follows the misadventures of the titular character after her messy breakup with the Joker. She is joined by her best friend Poison Ivy in her adventures alongside other popular other DC villains. Kaley Cuoco is the voice actor for Harley Quinn with Lake Bell as Poison Ivy.
There is currently no release date for Season 4 of Harley Quinn. However, an animated short film titled Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special is set to premiere on February 9.
