The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 was a huge hit. The first season received positive reviews and was watched by nearly 100 million subscribers. With its success, fans of the series have been itching to return to Middle-earth for a second season. In particular, the audiences are eager to learn what happens next to Galadriel, Elron, and The Stranger. We also want to know how Halbrand transformed into Sauron
Collider’s editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub got a chance to sit down with the Amazon Studios head, Vernon Sanders, to talk about the future of the series. Sanders revealed when we would likely see the highly anticipated second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
“I don’t know that I can say… It would be amazing if we could get Season 2 out within a year of Season 1’s release,” Sanders said. “It may take a smidge longer than that, but we’re doing everything we can, and we’re going to get better and faster as we go. Certainly, the production, what we’ve learned in Season 1, has taught us things that we’re applying in Season 2, and so far we set a goal for ourselves of when we want that show to be released, and we are on track and on plan.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 already started production even before the finale for Season 1. The second season started filming back in October, but it’ll take a while to produce such a big-budget series.
“How many years did it take us to make the first season? We’re talking about three to four years. We will come back with Season 2 much faster than that, but I think it’s a little bit of not getting ahead of ourselves,” Sanders adds.
From the statements by Sanders, audiences will likely be returning to Middle-earth in 2024 at the earliest. It will not take nearly as long for the second season to be produced as much of the world-building has already been done during season 1.
Amazon will also want to continue the momentum from the previous season as fans are still hyped and eager for more content.

Amazon Studios has reportedly invested $1 billion to make the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power happen. The studio has projected five seasons for the show and the production team is already discussing the third season.
There have been some conversations about Season 3, and we are making some investments to make sure that we are ready for Season 3. We are committed to JD (John D. Payne) and Patrick [McKay’s] vision for this, and I’m confident that we’ll be making many more seasons to come, but we’ll announce Season 3 when we’re ready, even as we continue to put stakes in the ground for that. We’re very excited about our future with this one.
Hopefully, we will get a more concrete release window once filming of the second season has finished.
