Warner Bros. delays Dune 2 by less than a month from October to November

Even if a later release date is not the best news, a single-month delay is not as infuriating when you consider the enormity of the sci-fi epic.

Dune: Part Two should enjoy a much bigger take at the global box office now that it will release exclusively in theaters.

If you played a huge part in Dune: Part One’s box office and streaming success, we’ve got bad news for you.

After confirming Dune: Part Two earlier this year, Warner Bros. just announced a change in the release date of the upcoming sequel. Instead of coming out on October 20, 2023, the studio has moved Dune: Part Two’s premiere to November 17, 2023, as per Deadline.

A delay definitely stings, but it’s not the worst thing in the world. For one, it’s just a month. Denis Villeneuve needs all the time in the world to give the massive sci-fi epic justice. Denis set a high bar with the first film, winning the hearts of audiences and critics alike as well as receiving several nominations. We don’t think anyone’s expecting any less from the sequel. Interestingly, The Hunger Games: The Balad of Songbirds and Snakes, which also features a star-studded cast, will come out in theaters on the same day as well. This should make for an interesting battle at the global box office, although we do think that the situation would have gone to normal enough by then to accommodate two blockbuster films on the same weekend.

We’re hoping that the month-long delay is the only “bad new” we’re getting about Dune: Part Two.

Going back to Dune: Part Two, cameras are expected to start rolling this fall on the sequel, which will play exclusively in theaters – unlike the first film.

Dune: Part Two is just part of Warner Bros.’s massive slate of upcoming films in the next few years outside of the DC Extended Universe. In the same report, Warner Bros. also revealed that the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong will come out on November 15, 2024. One of this year’s biggest films, The Batman, is also getting a sequel.
