WWE said no to original Ronda Rousey pitch for Extreme Rules Match

It looks like the former UFC superstar had a very bloody idea in mind for her grudge match against Liv Morgan.

Aside from thumbstacks, Ronda Rousey also wanted to use LEGOs but the WWE said no as well.

Ronda Rousey has lived up to her nickname, Rowdy, on more than one occasion. But, if she had her way, it appears that the current SmackDown Women’s Champion has a couple of ideas that would’ve made her namesake, the late Roddy Piper, hesitate.

Rousey recently revealed on her YouTube channel that she had something different in mind for her Extreme Rules match against Liv Morgan in Philadelphia.

Here’s what Rousey said in her video:

I pitched the finish to be on thumbtacks. She would put down the thumbstacks and powerbomb me on the thumbtacks and then as a repeat of our finish before, I would go for the armbar on the thumbtacks and they would start counting the pin. Then I would have to push up to my one shoulder. Like into the thumbtacks to keep the armbar… Live would be like biter her hand, trying not to tap out and pass out face down into the thumbstacks and have her hand protect the face.

They said we can’t use thumbtacks anymore. That legally we can’t like purposefully, like, injury people, like cut through skin and stuff. I don’t know.

The anything-goes match eventually went the way of Rousey. She trapped Morgan using a triangle choke that wedged Morgan’s head in between Rousey’s shin, thigh, and a massive chunk of the broken table that eventually forced the referee to step in and award Rousey the win.

Although it was a match where everything goes, as the name suggests, WWE fans would’ve been shocked to see thumbtacks. Neither Morgan nor Rousey have the reputation for such kinds of matches. If nothing else, it would’ve made for a very entertaining bout.

Unfortunately, WWE’s switch to the PG era all but guarantees that we won’t be coming back to such fights anytime soon. However, the AEW is brazen in its approach. Who’s to say that this won’t eventually force WWE’s hands?

Several hundreds of fans tuned in to watch Rousey and Morgan go at it at Extreme Rules earlier this month.

If this happens, the WWE would be smart to approach Rousey first for a match that involves thumbtacks.
