Following the triumphant box office debut with Five Nights at Freddy’s, Blumhouse Productions already has its eyes on its next big project. The company is charging ahead at full speed, unveiling ambitious plans for new projects, including a sequel to M3GAN.
In an exciting development last Friday, Blumhouse Productions revealed its latest endeavor: a sequel to the 2021 horror film, The Black Phone. Alongside the announcement, they confidently stamped a release date on the calendar – June 27, 2025 – promising fans another spine-chilling cinematic experience.
The Black Phone follows a 13-year-old boy named Finney who is kidnapped by the murderer, The Grabber. Following his abduction, he is imprisoned in a soundproof basement with no means of calling for help. However, he discovers a disconnected telephone that changes his life.
When the phone starts to ring, Finney will discover he is the latest in a long line of The Grabber’s victims However, the ghosts of the other victims want to help Finney and ensure he avoids the fate that befell them.
While fans eagerly anticipate the sequel, both Universal and Blumhouse have remained tight-lipped, leaving enthusiasts with a host of unanswered questions. Will the franchise follow Finney’s journey further, or introduce a new cast of characters? Will the original villain resurface, or will a new sinister force take the stage?
While the announcement of a sequel to The Black Phone is thrilling, it’s not entirely unexpected. The film’s director, Scott Derrickson, hinted at the possibility of a follow-up last year, keeping fans on the edge of their seats in anticipation.
Now, the only question is whether Blumhouse can pull it off by the set release date, especially with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Black Phone 2 is one of several projects that Blumhouse Productions has in the works. While there is no official confirmation at the moment, the company is reportedly mulling over a reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise. The studio is also working on Spawn, the adaptation of a comic book character of the same name by Todd McFarlane.
