If you ever owned a Nintendo 3DS, there’s a good chance you spent countless hours managing your virtual island and watching your Miis live out their quirky lives. With the Nintendo Switch being an unprecedented success, one can’t help but wonder: Is there a possibility of Tomodachi Life being ported to the console?
Tomodachi Life, released in 2014, was a delightful blend of The Sims and Animal Crossing, but with a unique Nintendo charm. Players could populate their island with Miis, each with distinct personalities, forming friendships, rivalries, and even romantic relationships. The game was a massive hit, selling over 6.72 million copies, making it the tenth best-selling game for the 3DS.
Given the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities, it’s tantalizing to imagine what Tomodachi Life could look like on the platform. The transition from the 3DS to the Switch has already proven transformative for franchises like Animal Crossing. Can you imagine a Tomodachi Life with enhanced Mii customization, vast islands to explore, and even more intricate Mii personalities? We dare say it could rival even that of The Sims!
To stoke the fires even further, Pyoro, a renowned leaker with a track record that’s almost prophetic, recently dropped what can only be described as a cryptic hint. Responding to a Twitter user about Tomodachi Life on the Switch, they said, “Ask Nintendo. I’m not the developer.” At first glance, it seems dismissive. But those familiar with Pyoro’s modus operandi know they rarely engage unless there’s some buzz in the background.
Could this be a subtle hint that something’s cooking? Or are we just grasping at straws, hopped up on “hopium”, fueled by our collective desire to see the game on the Switch?
While the demand is evident, Nintendo is notoriously capricious with its IPs. The company has ventured into similar territories with apps like Miitomo and games like Miitopia, but neither truly captured the magic of Tomodachi Life. The former saw a decline in interest and was discontinued in 2018, while the latter was average at best.
There’s no doubt that the gaming community is abuzz with hope and speculation, but the reality remains uncertain, and Nintendo’s silence on the matter doesn’t make it any better. However, given the game’s past success and the potential goldmine it could be on the Switch, it’s hard to imagine the company not considering it.

In the unpredictable world of gaming, where franchises are reborn and reinvented, the return of Tomodachi Life isn’t just a dream for fans; it’s a possibility. Unfortunately, as with all things Nintendo, only time will tell. Until then, we can only hope, speculate, and keep our fingers crossed for an announcement that, sadly, might never come.
