The Grand Theft Auto franchise is one of the most successful and controversial video game franchises of all time. Thus, it has a loyal fanbase that’s eagerly anticipating the next installment, Grand Theft Auto 6. But, as usual, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are tight-lipped about the game’s details, especially following last year’s massive leaks. Still, certain hints and rumors have surfaced about a possible comeback for one of the most memorable characters from GTA 5, Trevor Philips.
Steven Ogg, the actor who portrayed the fan-favorite GTA protagonist, recently teased his involvement in GTA 6 in a recent impromptu interview.
According to Ogg, he has “no idea” about whether he’ll appear in GTA 6, adding that voice actors “are the last to know.
However, some have taken Ogg’s words as him saying that he can’t disclose much due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
An earlier leak confirmed that at least one character from GTA 5 is returning to GTA 6, but they’re more of a side character than anyone of significance. It’s uncharacteristic of Rockstar to bring back a previous character in a new game as well. Case in point, Carl “CJ” Johnson, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the rest of the Grove Street Families, including his brother, Sweet, are nowhere to be seen in GTA 5.
But, if you pay close attention to certain conversations and details, Franklin and Lamar do sort of talk about what happened to the OG Families, which presumably meant CJ and the rest of the crew.
In a brief car ride discussion, Lamar and Franklin concluded that they were either dead already or made it out of the ghetto.
OG Loc is also mentioned by name a few times in subsequent GTA games, including GTA V and GTA Online, while Franklin has a poster of Madd Dog is over at Franklin’s Aunt’s house.
Of course, the fact that we’re talking about Trevor and GTA 6 right now alludes to the possibility that Rockstar is just trolling us. Ogg and Rockstar might be using this to generate more buzz and speculation for GTA 6, which is technically free marketing, even if the character has no or a minimal role in GTA 6.
Overall, the mystery and excitement surrounding GTA 6 continue to grow, fueled by countless rumors, leaks, and Rockstar’s coy communication strategy.
Whether Trevor appears in the game or not, the talks of his potential involvement show that Rockstar Games knows how to keep its fans engaged and eager for more. Meanwhile, fans can only wait and see what Rockstar Games has in store for them.
