When The Legend of Legacy debuted in 2015, it was to a lukewarm reception. Even though it had a mildly successful launch, the role-playing game was panned by both critics and audiences and could only manage a 67% positive rating on Metacritic.
Its publisher, NIS America, is giving it another go, though. Earlier this week, the publisher announced, via a trailer, that it is working on a remaster of the game titled The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered. The trailer gives us a preview of the game, including its updated graphics and improved gameplay. The trailer also revealed the title’s release window as early 2024.
What’s more? Unlike the original game, which was a Nintendo 3DS exclusive, the remaster will launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStations 4 and 5.
The game’s official description gives us more context on its events. It reads, “Discovered ten years ago, the island of Avalon is shrouded in mystery. It is said the continent was forged by the gods and elementals and is home to many fabled treasures with immense powers. Numerous brave souls have attempted to venture and investigate the lands of Avalon. Will you be next?”
It continues, “Follow the stories of seven upcoming heroes as they descend upon the untrodden lands to fulfill their unique desires. Each of them have their own individual skills and stories to tell. Manage battle formations and instruct specific combat roles to develop the upper hand in battle and seize victory, and utilize the ancient power of the elementals by forging contracts mid-battle to call down powerful skills. Take part in an epic journey unlike any other!”
The first half of the announcement trailer introduces new players to the world of The Legend of Legacy. The second half of the trailer showcases the title’s gameplay, its designs, and some of the avatars. It depicts the game’s mystical land of Avalon in its simple and colorful design. We also see the character models, who have a Chibi-like design, and engage in some of the exciting battles in the game.
To play The Legend of Legacy, players have to choose one of seven characters. But, it uses a non-traditional experience point system to upgrade characters. This new method involves how characters use their stance – whether Attack, Guard, or Support – during battle. And the better a player is, the more skills they’ll acquire. Also, they may acquire increased health or attack power, among others.
The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered will launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStations 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch sometime in October 2024.
