Taylor Swift Will Feature Prominently in The Fall Guy

Who would have thought that the director of John Wick and Bullet Train would be such a big Taylor Swift fan?

Last month, Universal threw us all a curveball that had us wondering if we’d accidentally stumbled into a parallel universe where Ryan Gosling is the biggest Swiftie we never knew. In the new trailer for The Fall Guy Gosling’s character, Colt Seavers, is sitting in his car, tears streaming down his face, as Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” fills the air. This, apparently, is a sign.

Swift fans everywhere know this feeling all too well (no pun intended), and if you were sitting there thinking, “Please, let there be more of Swift in the movie,” then buddy, the universe heard you. David Leitch, the director behind the upcoming film, spilled the beans to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, hinting that Swift’s tunes aren’t the only thing we’re getting in The Fall Guy.

“I don’t want to give it away but there’s some Taylor. There’s some Taytay. We love Taytay and so does Colt Seavers,” Leitch teased in a way that suggests maybe, just maybe, he’s got a Swift-themed playlist he’s hiding from us.

According to Leitch, it’s not just about having Swift’s music in the film but about what her music represents. In the THR interview, Leitch gets poetic about it, saying how Swift’s tracks encapsulate the romance and the downfall of Gosling and Emily Blunt’s characters.

“It’s not only the trailer, actually. It was something that was baked into the DNA of the film and when we were looking for a piece of music that sort of represented their romance and their fall from grace in the past, and I won’t give too much away because you guys all have to see the movie.”

Leitch’s films have a reputation for comical elements paired with strong emotional undertones, and The Fall Guy is no different. From the synopsis, the action comedy film is your not-so-typical story of a stuntman, played by Gosling, living through the explosive and often painful world of stunts, all in the name of entertainment.

Fresh off an accident that almost puts him out of the stunt game for good, our hero finds himself entangled in a mission to find a missing movie star, unravel a conspiracy, and, in the process, hopefully win back the love of his life. To make matters worse, he’s got to juggle all this while still showing up for his day job.

Oh, and the cast is just as impressive as the film’s plot. Alongside Gosling and Blunt, Winston Duke will play the best friend you wish you had, Stephanie Hsu will portray the assistant to the missing star, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will take on the role of the missing star, Tom Ryder (basically the Tom Cruise of that universe).

The last film Leitch made, Bullet Train, was an absolute knockout. If The Fall Guy trailer is anything to go by, we can expect more of the same come May 3, when the film opens in theaters in the US.
