Sony doesn’t do Day One titles on the PlayStation Plus. At least, not most of the time. And, when they do, they’re often smaller titles, unlike what Xbox does with the Game Pass that frequently welcomes the likes of Starfield, among others. But, don’t let their lack of name recognition or AAA status fool you – the Day One titles on the PlayStation Plus are usually a banger.
Case in point, Teardown, a name that probably reminds you more of what happens when you leave toddlers alone and on their own, unsupervised.
Don’t worry, worried parents. Teardown is a strategy beauty developed by Tuxedo Labs that basically tells dares you to make your own path in life, literally.

Initially launching on desktops with an impressive “80” Critic Score on Metacritic, Teardown allows players to plan out their ideal heist. Imagine a playground where everything, from the walls to that suspicious-looking garden gnome, is destructible. It’s a world where you’re armed not just with tools, but also with the power of imagination. Want to create a shortcut using explosives? Go for it! Fancy building a tower of cars? Why the heck not?
Now, such a PC sensation making its grand PlayStation 5 entrance is news in itself. But, in a twist fit for a heist movie, Teardown is set to debut as a part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on day one. This is like having your cake, eating it, and then discovering there’s a second cake underneath. It’s a delightful surprise especially for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members.
The surprises don’t stop there either. Marcus Dawson, the CEO of Tuxedo Labs, has unveiled plans to expand Teardown. Gamers can anticipate a smorgasbord of new content, including missions, maps, and more. This buffet of delights also introduces the game’s first-ever season pass, which hopefully will be implemented well.
The mechanics of Teardown echo a balance of structure and free will. Players have 40 levels, each a canvas for strategic brilliance, and just when you think you’ve got your plan down, the game chucks in curveballs. However, for those who prefer serenading in the digital rain, there’s Sandbox Mode – a realm of unhindered exploration. And the cherry on this digital sundae? Time Campers, a wild west themed DLC. Because who doesn’t want to mix dynamite and cowboy boots?
Of course, Teardown’s arrival on the PS Plus on November 15 is still quite a ways away. In the meantime, fans can look forward to October’s offerings first, starting with the PS Plus Essential titles.
The recently announced lineup for the PS Plus’ most basic tier is headlined by The Callisto Protocol followed by Farming Simulator 22 and Weird West.
With the spookier months of the year just right around the corner, it wouldn’t surprise us if PlayStation doubles down on the scares and drops more horror titles to fill out the relatively spook-free PS Plus library.
